What is Scented Atlas?

Scented Atlas is a living, map-driven resource that connects fragrance lovers to the people who create and curate scent. The directory includes:

• Independent and artisan perfume houses
• Studio-based perfumers
• Small-batch creators
• Privately owned boutiques specializing in niche perfume

Every location is geocoded and pinned on the global map so visitors can explore geographically, regionally, or by curiosity alone.

Why independent perfumery matters

Independent perfumers bring something essential to the world of fragrance: artistic risk, cultural diversity, experimentation, and storytelling. These creators often work outside the constraints of large corporations, producing work that is personal, conceptual, and deeply expressive.

Scented Atlas exists to elevate this community, expand its reach, and make it easier for consumers to support the artists shaping scent culture around the world.

How listings work

Scented Atlas is curated but inclusive. Listings are added manually by reviewing publicly available information, brand submissions, and community recommendations.

Entries may include:

• House name
• Type (Perfumer or Boutique)
• City and Country
• Website
• Ownership identities (Women-owned, LGBTQ+-owned, Black-owned, etc.)
• Physical studio or retail notes
• Sampling and purchasing options
• Shipping notes (national / international)

There is no pay-to-play model for inclusion. Basic listings are free and will remain free.

Transparency and sustainability

Scented Atlas is built with transparency at its core. Any optional paid placements, sponsorships, or promotional features will always be labeled clearly. No listing – paid or unpaid – will override factual accuracy or public value.

This resource is designed to sustain itself financially, not exploit the community it serves.

Who runs Scented Atlas?

Scented Atlas is created and maintained by James Elliott, an independent perfumer and the founder of Filigree & Shadow. It began as a public spreadsheet shared with the fragrance community and has grown into a dedicated platform built to support creators, stockists, and scent explorers worldwide.
